There is no question that Mr. Butkovitz takes his job very seriously. Nor has there been very much dispute about the quality of work that he has done over his first term in office. In fact . . . . the only reoccurring criticism of him from the media, seems to have been that the Controller may have been quote unquote “too energetic.”   Beyond doing the basic blocking and tackling of his responsibilities, he also made time to reach into new areas that were in sore need of review and public discussion. Some thought that kind of initiative constituted more than was normally expected from a City Controller.

Butkovitz Announces Candidacy For Re-Election

Cites $600 Million in Savings & Revenues from Audits   (PHILADELPHIA) Incumbent Philadelphia City Controller Alan Butkovitz today announced his candidacy for re-election during a press conference in City Hall.   In announcing his candidacy, Butkovitz said, “I tripled the number of performance audits each year from two to six and as a result, outlined over $413 million in specific savings and additional revenue sources for the City of Philadelphia.”   “I also joined Mayor Nutter and representatives of our municipal employees to push my Pension Recovery Plan that will save the city another $172 million dollars over the next 5 years,” he said.

Dear Visitor, The combined meltdown on Wall Street and the ensuing economic crisis that has gripped our nation after eight long years of disastrous Republican Party rule in the White House, has forced Philadelphia to confront near-crippling deficits -- while trying to maintain essential police, fire and emergency medical services. I am running for re-election as City Controller because I want to continue fighting for the people of Philadelphia and saving taxpayers' money by eliminating waste, fraud and mismanagement in city government - while offering new and innovative solutions to some of our most pressing problems.
